Many monuments to Kranichfeld's colourful history draw visitors to this region, which has plenty to offer in the way of leisure and cultural attractions.
Highlights include concerts on the open-air stage at Niederburg Castle, the medieval show at the Upper Castle, and walks in the Middle Ilm Valley conservation area. |

Many traditional events appeal to visitors of all ages, such as literary cabaret at Baumbach House, the summer gala, the cycling tour on 1 May, the Christmas market and the Thuringian Festival of Dance and Roses, which includes the coronation of the Rose Queen. This festival was celebrated in Kranichfeld for the first time in 1878 and takes place every year when the roses are in bloom.
One of the town's oldest buildings that is open to visitors is Baumbach House, the birthplace of the poet Rudolf Baumbach, who wrote the German folk song Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen (‘high up on the yellow cart'). |
