Apolda Castle

Apolda Castle is situated on a hill behind the town hall. The origins of the castle, which was originally a stronghold, go back to the 10th and 11th centuries. In the 13th century, it was the residence of the Vizthum family from Apolda, around whom many legends have grown up, including the story of little Katharina. Today, the castle is the cultural centre of the town and also a venue for civil weddings.
