Niederburg (Lower Castle) Kranichfeld

This romantic little town with imposing castles on both banks of the river Ilm offers plenty to see and do. As you climb from the centre of this doubly-fortified town up to the fairytale Renaissance castle above, a fabulous view of the idyllic Ilm valley opens up before you, revealing its attractions for walkers, cyclists and anglers. 

Once in the outer grounds of the castle, why not take an extended walk, or pay a visit to the eagle and falcon centre, where you can experience amazing live displays with one of the rarest birds

in the world, the Andean Condor, and thrill at the flying skills of kites, buzzards and various breeds of falcon. Demonstrations take place from Tues-Sun (May-Sept.).
