Tiefurt House and Kromsdorf Palace , in order to walk from one to the other without getting wet underfoot. Local farmers were long opposed to a ‘path for the gentry' through their farmland, and so it was only 20 years after her death in 1879, that the Grand Duchess's vision was realised.

In 1998, the two-kilometre, well-built trail was reopened as a cycling and walking trail.
Along the route, you'll come across ten quotes by Goethe presented on small display panels. You can stroll through this wonderful landscaped meadowland beside the River Ilm following in Goethe's footsteps and enjoying the tranquillity of nature around you.
Since it opened, many people from all over the world have enjoyed a leisurely stroll or cycle ride along this path.

Our jaunt comes to an end at Kromsdorf Palace, a renaissance castle built in 1580, which now has a beer garden and restaurant where you can replenish your energy levels.
Those wishing to walk along the wall around the castle grounds will discover 62 sandstone busts of historical figures - a fascinating experience. |
